Evening and Morning

Sala Margana
Rome

30 September - 3 October 2010
Soul and body each travel along their separate paths, both are in search of the self and the courage to let go of the burden of a painful past. This, then, is the theme of the exhibition 'Fu Sera e Fu Mattino' ('Evening and Morning') which is presented in two sections, one of paintings on copper and the others on panel, and follows the various stages of a voyage through the night. As darkness falls on the streets of Rome contrasting sentiments cropss eachother's paths: disorientation at the sight of reflections in shop windows where confused splinters of reality are woven together, the search for comfort in the churches of Il Gesù and Santa Maria Sopra Minerva with it's shining blue ceiling and a shadow of absence hovering above like a cloud. Here, too, is the darkness of night punctured by the headlights of the cars of silent travellers. During the same night a sleepless woman wraps herself in the sheets of her bed, where she searches for refuge but is caught up in her own pain. The dawn will bring a new light and a blue sky will return to shine once more over a new day when it will again be possible to live, act, and love.
